Sunday Sessions w/ Framework Music & Return of the Jaded
Mercury Lounge - 56 Byward Market Square, Ottawa, Ontario Canada
Sunday Sept 3, Labour Day Long Weekend Extended Hours…
«RICK LAPLANTE… ALL NIGHT LONG!»
ALL NIGHT LONG…
It's been a while since we revisited this concept in the 2017 calendar at Sunday Sessions w/ Framework Music & Return of the Jaded. We're happy to have the 2nd instalment of our All Night Long event series featuring your Sessions residents. DJ's will perform for the entire evening from open to close, presenting their own personal musical journey in our beloved intimate Mercury Lounge environment.
The dance music and clubbing world has been settling into the standard festival formula of 60-minute DJ slots. Sunday Sessions usually follows this same practice to try and include as many local Ottawa DJs as we can, but we also recognize that the roots of the underground house music experience are quite different. Many veteran house heads lament the rarity of the extended set in a steamy, sweat-slicked nightclub for a reason, left only to cherish memories of marathon throw-downs from their favourite DJs.
With Sunday Sessions' All Night Long series, we're bringing back the original way of sharing THE LOVE OF HOUSE by focusing on the relationship between DJ and dancefloor — the exchange of energy during an extended set that sees the crowd guiding the DJ as much as the DJ guides the crowd.
We want to give our DJs the time and freedom to go deeper into their sound, express themselves musically and truly connect with people on the dancefloor. To us, allowing the DJ and dancefloor the opportunity to experience a true «journey» of a dj set TOGETHER is still a sacred concept.

RICK LAPLANTE BIO:
Hailing from Ottawa, Canada, Rick Laplante's involvement in the party scene began in London, ON in early 1992 as a partner of Prism Productions, a project committed to hosting intimate gatherings with good vibes and fresh music. Unable to resist the siren song of the turntables for long, Rick began basement DJing later in 1992, with his first professional gig the following year.
Rick's main musical influences came through London's proximity to Detroit and Toronto, where frequent weekend visits to these cities exposed him to some of the most groundbreaking underground sounds heard in the world during the early 90's. He has now been promoting events and professionally DJing coming on 25 years, and he doesn't intend on slowing down.
Rick's preferred club style is anything that can be described as groovy and/or bouncy tech-house, yet he also draws influence from his eclectic music collection, with flashes of myriad genres ranging from techno to disco, breaks to jazz and from latin to lounge. He hasn't forgotten his musical roots from running the Detroit-Toronto corridor for years, either… you can always expect the unexpected while Rick blends several different auditory flavours into his Dj sets.
Rick is active in the local scene of our Nation's Capital, he promoted a weekly afterhours event, Sunrise, for its run of over 5 years, and now with his current promotions company «Framework Music», hosts several regular events in Ottawa. In 2015, Framework Music teamed up with rising star producers Return of the Jaded to host a bi-weekly party called Sunday Sessions, an afternoon social gathering at Ottawa's legendary Mercury Lounge. New in 2017, Framework Music launched Ottawa's only legal and licensed all night dance event in City At Night, the White Rabbit Ottawa series.
As well as promoting events, Rick has performed many out of town gigs, from Montreal to Toronto, from Boston to New York City and across north eastern North America. Rick now has his sights firmly set beyond Ottawa's city limits by starting to delve into production work, with aspirations of launching his own label in coming years.
