Brian Butcher, Faculty of Theology professor at St. Paul University, will share the story of how these two brilliant classic authors met, discovered their common love for mythical tales, pledged to bring such stories into the mainstream of public readership, and had a profound influence on each other's works and person. Butcher will distinguish between formal and informal allegory; reveal the authors' shared three interrelated commitments to romanticism, reason, and Christianity; and compare and contrast their unequal mutual esteem.

Lewis's debt to Tolkien is that if he had not known Tolkien he would not have written The Chronicles of Narnia; Tolkien's debt to Lewis is that if he had not known Lewis he would never have finished The Lord of the Rings. Paradoxically, we have Tolkien to thank for Narnia, and Lewis to thank for Middle Earth. Such are the benefits, the power, and the glory when two great minds collude.

Guests are welcome to arrive early for boating on Dow's Lake or drinks and dining at one of three fine restarants at the Pavilion and stay afterwards for fellowship. Summer rentals, from 9am-8pm, at Dows Lake Marina include canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, peddle boats, and rowboats (see link below for rates and details). The parking lot is across the road on Prince of Wales Drive. Malone's will stamp your parking ticket for 2 hours of free parking, whether or not you purchase food or drinks. There is an OC Transpo bus stop just a 3 minute walk on Carling Street and busses arrive and depart frequently.

Admission is free, however a donation will be collected.

Spread the word! Invite your friends in person, by email, and through the invite button. See you there!
