On Aug 25, 2017 we will be hosting the 2nd annual Benefit for “I Love to Play Hockey “ in Memory of Eric Leighton with Canadian Tire Jumpstart. This event will take place at the Brass Monkey Bar in Nepean.
This event will be in honor of Eric Leighton, a young athlete who tragically lost his life in a high school accident in 2011. Eric’s love of sports has inspired is family to create this event in order to help and support program to help those in need to play a sport their son loved.
Last year we raised just over $15K, with this we were able to help 40 extra kids get involved in the “I Love to Play Hockey” program (this moved it from 60 to 100). This is all thanks to all the local companies that have graciously donated auction items to the benefit.
Jumpstart is a national charity with commitment to local communities. For more the 90 years our Canadian Tire stores have been an integral part of the community life in Canada, specifically in Ottawa. In 2005, that legacy was continued and launched through a signature program that we know today as Jumpstart. National in scope, but in its focus, Jumpstart delivers support to children 4-18 throughout a Canada-wide network of chapters and community partners.
The Canadian Tire Jumpstart “I Love to Play Hockey” in memory of Eric Leighton program, provides children with this chance. This program is offered to participants who meet the target population of low-income families, new Canadians, and aboriginals. Low-income families have been chosen because of the high costs associated with hockey lessons and equipment (which is provided with the program). Hockey is a Canadian past time and an important part of our culture.
Together, with our family and friends we are putting together another exciting event with live bands. We will be selling tickets for raffle prizes, 50/50 and there will be door prizes as well. All proceeds will be donated to the Jumpstart organization under the “I love to Play Hockey” program. Last year with just raffles and auction prizes we raised over $5000 and another $10,000 with online donations. We are expecting this to be another unforgettable night.
We are proud to support this cause in honor of Eric (our son), as we know how important it is for kids to have an equal opportunities to play sports. We would appreciate any support that you could possibly offer.
