Get the buzz on honey bees and learn how these small insects not only supply us with honey but have a huge impact on agriculture and our everyday lives. Join us at this family friendly event that’s sure to be the bee’s knees!

Presentation — Bee Inspired: Our Journey to Save the Bees, 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Bee inspired as you discover the practical ways you can protect and save wild bees. With Marianne Gee of Gees Bees Honey Company.

Cooking with Honey, 12:15 p.m.to 12:45 p.m.
Join Chef Bruce Wood from Bruce Wood Culinary Consulting for this delectable cooking demonstration featuring apples, summer fruits with wildflower, and hive blossom honey marinated old cheddar.

From Honeycomb to Jar, 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Our Museum beekeeper will demonstrate the art of honey extraction. Try your hand at this unique activity!

Attracting Pollinators, Ongoing activity
Meet members of the Master Gardeners of Ottawa-Carleton. Learn tips and tricks for planting and caring for a pollinator garden.

Bee Costume Contest! Ongoing activity
Dress up as a bee for a chance to win a birthday party at the Museum!

Kids Craft & Games Station, Ongoing activity
Show your love for our tiny pollinating friends by making lovely bee buttons!

Meet a Local Beekeeper, Station closed from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
Learn all about what it takes to bee in charge of a hive!

Meet the Museum Beekeeper, Ongoing activity
Try on a beekeeper’s uniform and gloves, put an empty hive back together, and learn how honeybees turn nectar into honey.

Baking with Honey, Ongoing activity — kitchen closed from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45
Enjoy tasty treats featuring honey as the not-so-secret ingredient.

Honey Ice Cream Making, 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m.
Help make ice cream using an old-fashioned hand-crank freezer. Today’s secret ingredient will bee…honey of course!

Hive Rentals with Gees Bees Honey Company, Ongoing activity
Find out how you can bee involved by renting your very own hive!

Tally-Ho Wagon Rides ($), 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Weather permitting
Enjoy a tour through the fields of the Central Experimental Farm on the Tally-Ho wagon pulled by the dynamic duo, Paul and Padrig, the Museum’s Clydesdale horses.
