He will summarize the content of the six Marian apparitions to the shepherd children of Fatima from May 13 to October 13, 1917, the secrets of Fatima, and its message. Although the Fatima apparitions happened 100 years ago, they contain a message that is both relevant and crucial in the world today. The Bishop will also speak on Marian Consecration.

Bishop Christian Riesbeck, CC, is a member of the Companions of the Cross, whose spirituality includes a Marian pillar: True Devotion to Mary. He is blessed to be able to speak about THE woman in his life.

Optional Movie Night

Depending on how John, the manager of Malone's, feels this month's movie goes will determine whether or not we will be showing the following movies.

Before the talk, between 5:00-6:45pm, guests are invited to arrive early for a showing of «The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima» (102 minutes).

This classic feature film, made in 1952, illustrates the apparitions of Our Lady of Fátima, in Portugal, in 1917. It stars Susan Whitney as Lúcia dos Santos, Sherry Jackson as Jacinta Marto, and Sammy Ogg as Francisco Marto, with Gilbert Roland as a fictional character named Hugo, a kindly but agnostic friend of the three children, who rediscovered his faith in God through the miracle of the Sun. The musical score by Max Steiner received an Academy Award nomination. Trailer: m.youtube.com/watch?v=1jOFyznf53w

After the talk and fellowship, between 9:00-10:30pm, guests are invited to stay later for a showing of «The 13th Day» (85 minutes)

Based on the memoirs of the oldest visionary, Lucia Santos, and many thousands of independent eye-witness accounts, «The 13th Day» dramatizes the true story of three young shepherds who experienced six apparitions of Our Lady between May and October 1917, which culminated in the final prophesied Miracle of the Sun on October 13th. Stylistically beautiful and technically innovative, writer-directors Ian and Dominic Higgins use state-of-the-art digital effects to create stunning images of the visions and the final miracle that have never before been fully realized on screen. Witness the greatest miracle of the 20th Century, and experience the incredible, emotionally-charged and often harrowing world of three young children whose choice to remain loyal to their beliefs, even in the face of death, would inspire thousands. A Brief Overview of Our Lady of Fatima

«One hundred years ago, on May 13, 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary first appeared to three small shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal and unleashed a flood of grace in the midst of a world shattered by World War I.

Our Lady of Fatima, as she came to be known, appeared six times on the 13th of each month, asking for prayer (the daily recitation of the Rosary), penance, and the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. „Mary also predicted another, even more brutal war if the world did not repent, and 21 years later the Nazis invaded Poland, sparking World War II. During Mary's final appearance, on Oct 13, 1917, 70,000 pilgrims witnessed the Miracle of the Sun, even by some 40 miles away. The Fatima apparitions became renowned for the prophecies, secrets, and miracles associated with them, and a century later, are still the subject of intense interest.

Two of the visionaries, siblings Francisco and Jacinta Marto, died soon after the apparitions; the third, Lúcia dos Santos, went on to become a Carmelite Sister. Sr. Lúcia died in 2005“ (Joyce Coronel). On May 13, 2017, on the 100th anniversary of the first apparition, Pope Francis canonized Francisco and Jacinta Marto. On February 13, 2017, on the 9th anniversary of her death, Sr. Lucia was accorded the title Servant of God, as the first major step toward her canonization.

St. Pope John Paul II attributed his survival of an assassination attempt on May 13, 1981, to the intercession of Our Lady of Fatima. He said it was a “mother’s hand that guided the bullet’s path.» While, Pope Francis dedicated his papacy to Our Lady of Fatima on May 13, 2013.
