Throw it away? No way! Fix it at the Repair Café!
Repair Café is an international movement to reduce landfill, share skills, and create community!
Our first Repair Café in Ottawa was a huge success with volunteers fixing dozens of items and sharing their knowledge around everything from darning a sock to re-wiring a kettle.
Join us on December 9th from 11am until 5pm at Makerspace North. There, as well as learning to fix you broken and torn items, you’ll find activities, treats, coffee, and a chance to connect with your greater community. We're also looking for volunteers to be fixers* or helpers that day! You can get in touch through the link below or email [email protected]
Some things to know about Repair Café:
Please bring only one item to be fixed, as time and space are limited. You may register your item to be fixed between 11 am and 4 pm.
Everyone is welcome at this free event, there will be activities for the little ones, coffee and snacks, and lots of people to meet and chat with.
Bay 216 is all on one level, accessed from the West side of the building, up a driving ramp found at the south end of the City Centre parking lot.
The doors are manual.
The bathrooms are large in the sink/mirror area, but the stalls are narrow.
There will be be vapours in use from glue and other solvents.
*Fixers aren't necessarily professionals, they're tinkerers and lay people who can repair small appliances, textiles, glasses, books, bikes, small furniture, electronics, toys and/or more!
*Helpers are friendly people who want to help run a smooth and fun event; whether that's by making coffee, welcoming people, supporting the fixers, or some other really important role, we need you!
