Open Call for Flamenco Dancers, Singers and Musicians

On June 14-16, 2018 will take place the first Festival Flamenco Capitale, in the National Capital Region (Ottawa and Gatineau). One of the main objectives of the Festival is to promote local emergent talent and one of the events will be dedicated to this. On Friday, June 15, 2018, from 8 p....m., there will be a show presented by local dancers, singers and musicians, in a professional setting, with professional sound and light artists. This show will be advertised to the general public as well as the flamenco community. The show will include two distinct parts: one with live music and one with recorded music.

This is an amazing opportunity for local emergent artists and students of all levels to showcase their work: you can present a solo number, a dance number with guitar and/or singing accompaniment, a music number, a personal choreography or the choreography that you are learning right now in your class, together with your colleagues, etc. A number can include up to eight dancers and four musicians.

We call upon local flamenco artists to submit a proposal of participation, by email (at [email protected]), no later than March 15, 2018 that includes the following information (some of the information will also be included in the event’s program):

Details (dance, vocal, music, combination, etc.):
Name of participants:
Number of people on the stage:
Choreographer and/or Composer:
Music (recorded/live):
Level (in your estimate, what is the level of the artists: beginner, intermediate, advanced. The call is open to all levels; this information will help the Festival to order the numbers in each set):

(The organizers will make a selection only if there are more submission than what can be accommodated during one show.)

If you participate in this event, you agree to:

— Participate in one pre-show rehearsal on Sunday, June 10, 2018 (time and location to be determined)
— On the day of the show (June 15), to arrive at the show venue no later than 5:30 p.m. so that you are ready for soundcheck and light setting at 6:00 p.m.
— To sell at least three tickets for the show at $20 each. The Festival is organized and subsidized by a group of volunteers. This is a not-for-profit endeavour and, in the unlikely case that profits are being made, they will be used towards organizing the next year’s Festival.
